Either you hate Valentine’s Day, or you love it. But every year, it’ll come–so why not eat some great food? That’s why I have compiled this Vegan Gluten-Free Valentine’s Recipe Roundup! This roundup is great for many reasons. There are several options here for breakfast, dinner, and dessert. There are also options that are quick and easy, or take a little more work and are great to make with a loved one. And of course, all these Valentine’s recipes are vegan and gluten-free!
I often hear people criticize Valentine’s Day, and the two most common critiques are: 1) the commercial aspect of the holiday and 2) that we shouldn’t show love just one day a year. To this, I say: yah! But, I also say: why not embrace it? I don’t mean embrace the commercialism of it all; I think you can celebrate the day without buying a heart shaped box of chocolates. Instead, I say, make a nice dinner and slow down (if you can). Take a moment to think about the people in your life and remind them that you love them. We cannot do this every day. Many of us don’t have the time or the emotional energy, and that is okay! That’s why I think a special day that reminds us that we love and are loved in return is really special.
Whether you spend it with your partner, a crush, your friends, a fuzzy friend, or yourself — I hope you have a great day and remember that you’re loved! Without further ado, here are some vegan gluten-free recipes perfect for making this Valentine’s Day! Enjoy!
Vegan Gluten-Free Breakfast and Brunch
Tofu Breakfast Tacos
What’s romantic about breakfast tacos? Not too much, but they’re delicious! A favourite thing I do with my partner is make brunch together on the weekends, and we LOVE these breakfast tacos that are loaded with homemade refried beans, marinated egg-like tofu, sautéed mushrooms and spinach, and topped with guacamole! Yum!
Delicious Vegan Quiche
I think this quiche is so decadent! It’s great for breakfast because it’s packed with protein and tuns of flavour! It’s also a great option if you’ve got a busy day ahead of you on Valentine’s Day, because it can easily be prepared the night before and eaten cold or warmed up in the morning!
Vegan Gluten-Free Dinner:
Vegan Bourguignon with Celeriac Mash
Does it get more romantic than Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon? It’s such a classic, and this is my vegan and gluten-free take on it! It’s served with a celeriac potato mash, which brings so much more flavour and fancy-ness to this classic dish!
Spicy Jackfruit Sushi
Last Valentine’s Day my partner and I had a “stay-in” date and made sushi! We made this Spicy Jackfruit sushi and it was such a hit! You can easily make it a larger meal by serving it with some miso soup and edamame. And the sushi making process is so fun to do with your partner, or with a group of friends!
Roasted Beet Salad with Almond Feta
There seemed to be a period of time when beet salads served with goat cheese and a balsamic glaze were all the rage! This is a vegan version of that salad. It’s nice to serve on a special occasion because it’s beautiful in colour thanks to the roasted beets and isn’t the kind of salad you’d make everyday!
Spinach and Artichoke Stuffed Shells
There is just something about pasta that seems romantic — maybe that’s because of that one scene from the Lizzie McGuire movie when Kate eats pasta with Ethan in Rome. What’s nice about this dish is that, a) it’s delicious! and b) it can be prepared quick and placed into the oven. Then you have lots of time for Valentine’s activities 😉
Thanksgiving Poutine
Is poutine a Valentine’s Day food? In my books, it’s the best romantic food! Cozy up on the couch with your partner and big ol’ bowl of poutine, or with your friends, and put on a movie! And this poutine in particular has cranberry sauce on top giving the dish a nice pop of red!
Vegan Bolognese
Another pasta dish, for the reason I mentioned above but also because this is one of those recipes that cooks slowly, allowing you to sip a glass of wine while you wait. It’s a vegan and gluten-free version of the classic bolognese. Small diced onions, carrots, and celery are sautéed, then wine, tomatoes, and lots of vegan meat is added with a final touch of cashew cream. Yum!
Vegan Gluten-Free Desserts:
Double Chocolate Cookies
Does anything say Valentine’s Day like chocolate? Nope! So why not double that chocolate dose and make these Double Chocolate Cookies! They’re soft and chewy and pair perfectly with a cup of coffee for that afternoon coffee date you might be going on!
Apple Tart
I guess an apple tart doesn’t real scream romance, but this is one of my favourite dessert recipes from the blog so I had to add it to this list! It’s easier to make than an apple pie, but is just as delicious in its own way! It’s also pretty fail proof — I have made it so many times!
Peanut Butter Oat Fudge Bars
And last but not least, the most delicious combination of all: chocolate and peanut butter. This was an early recipe on the blog, so the photos aren’t as great. But, it’s still one of my all time favourite recipes. I remember my sister-in-law made them and brought them over for a family dinner. I ate one and was raving about how delicious they were. She had to remind me the recipe came from my blog! (It had been awhile since I made them!)
And there you have it! Hopefully these recipes will inspire you to try making some plant-based meals or treats this Valentine’s Day.
