Friends! It is that time of the year and I AM SO EXCITED. If you know me at all, you will know that I adore the holiday season. I’ll get into that a little later on the blog, but first, I bring you a new, holiday themed blog series: A Perfect Match. What is this series, you might ask? It’s a combination of my two favourite things: Christmas movies and food. In the next few weeks, I’ll be be posting recipes inspired by my favourite holiday movies and specials.
During this time of the year, I spend a lot of time getting into the holiday spirit. So I thought, why not do something with all that knowledge? I also wanted to expand my holiday recipes repertoire and I thought this might motivate me. I often have such good plans in October and November, and then everything always falls through because the holiday season can get so busy!
I was inspired to do this after I found someone who created a drinking game for Christmas Hallmark movies. It’s hilarious and amazing. At first I thought about doing a cocktail pairing for the movies, but the reality is that alcohol is expensive (and this grad student doesn’t have the money to buy a wide-varierty of alcohols). I might still try and do one, though… mulled wine, anyone?
I’m going to do my best to do some movies that are easily accessible. Two of my favourite ones are on YouTube as well as features like Garfield’s Christmas and Arthur’s Perfect Christmas. These ones are at the top of my list!
I hope you stay tuned and watch out for the series! In the meantime, you might want to check out some of my past holiday cookie recipes:
Biscotti Trio – Almond Anise, Orange Chocolate, and Lemon Poppyseed
Three recipes in one post! Biscotti is such a great cookies to have on hand during the holidays. They last well and you can make them with so many different add-ins.
Almond Rum Cookies
These were inspired by a recipe in Veganomicon. They were one of my favourite holiday cookies when I was younger, so I have adapted the recipe a bit to make it gluten free!
Crispy Maple Oatmeal Cookies
These cookies have such a lovely flavour. They’re great anytime of the year, but they are wonderfully spiced, making them perfect for the holiday season!
